The Environmental Manager is responsible for Tyler Union's compliance with federal, state, local, and McWane, Inc. environmental regulations, policies, and procedures in areas such as air quality, waste, clean water, and pollution.  Manage all local, state, and federal permitting requirements.  Periodically represent Tyler Union with officials from the EPA and ADEM.  Recommend improvements to the Tyler Union Environmental Management Program.  Directly manage Environmental department personnel.  Carry out management responsibilities in accordance with Tyler Union's policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.


  • Follow all processes and procedures associated with the Tyler Union Safety Management Program.  Adhere to Company safety rules and regulations and work safely at all times.
  • Manage all environmental activities at all Tyler Union facilities.
  • Determine suitable environmental goals and objectives for Tyler Union, tracking progress for such goals and final implementation.
  • Manage and implement environmental policies, procedures, and work instructions at each Tyler Union facility.
  • Responsible for tracking corrective and preventive actions for outstanding items.
  • Responsible for maintaining a compliance calendar, waste matrix, and training matrix.
  • Responsible for the development of and maintaining necessary plans, such as SPCC, BMP, Biomedical Waste, Hazardous Waste Contingency, etc.
  • Responsible for keeping the Assistant General Manager apprised of all environmental affairs that could impact Tyler Union facilities, either positively or negatively.
  • Responsible for the timely submission of all reports required by local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
  • Participate in new equipment and process changes at facility level to ensure environmental requirements are incorporated into all design and purchasing decisions.
  • Manage and support all Environmental staff personnel; perform annual performance evaluations.
  • Track and verify closure on all corrective actions for all environmental incidents.
  • Share information, as appropriate, on pertinent incidents with group and corporate staff.
  • Responsible for all environmental training at all Tyler Union facilities.
  • Serve as the primary contact between Tyler Union and environmental regulators.
  • Serve as a member of the local Community Involvement Group (MAC).
  • May be required to work any shift.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor degree in Environmental Management or related field from a four-year College or University.
  • Five (5) to eight (8) years of progressive environmental management experience.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Must be capable of accessing computer-based systems, such a Safetec, Ops, Dakota Tracer, and Share Point.
  • Must be capable of performing any inspection, reporting, filing, manifesting, profiling, or other function required in the absence of other environmental staff members.
  • Must be able to operate the pH meter, chlorine meter, handheld radiation monitor, and perform Method 9 visible emissions observations.
  • Must be trained in HAZWOPER, RCRA, and DOT regulations.
