Responsibilities

  1. Operates a stationary grinder to remove fins, knots, blemishes and parting lines from a variety of castings. May also use a chipping hammer to remove fins or gates from a casting.

  2. Visually inspects castings for defects and by-passes inferior castings such as slag, sand holes, short and cold pours, breaks or cracks. On SV fittings check inside hub for scabs, core cracks and globs.

  3. Check side guards.

  4. Fittings are selected randomly from a rotating wheel for grinding, per company specifications. Unprocessed castings are loaded on the rotating wheel via a shaker pan.

  5. Castings can be selected by work order as to what casting needs to be processed.

  6. After casting in processed per specification, they are placed underneath rotating wheel. However during a selected time frame, castings can be placed into a basket instead of underneath the wheel to gauge the amount of product processed.

  7. Required to grind a set quantity amount per hour for approximately 4 hours a day.

  8. Loads finished castings from shaker pan by hand to a revolving conveyor hook to be sent to the dipping tank.

  9. Unloads dipped castings from conveyor hook to sorted pallets. Use of a chipping hammer may be required to remove casting from conveyor hook.

  10. Keeps work area clean, orderly and safe at all times.

  11. Performs other miscellaneous duties as required.

  15. Know when to grind and not to grind

  16. Toss fittings to the other side of carousel

Qualifications

  1. Ability to stand for up to 10 hours per day

  2. Ability to work in extreme temperatures hot/cold

  3. Must wear proper PPE, such as, face shield, earplugs, goggles, hard-hat, gloves, apron, and metal tarsal boots.

  4. Must be able to follow instructions from supervisor

  5. Requires considerable knowledge of proper grinding, chipping, and inspection procedures.

  6. Requires the ability to process castings in such a manner to prevent back-ups on the wheel, the shaker or the conveyor and assure castings are processed according to required specifications.

  7. Continuous physical exertion required in removing castings from the wheel or conveyor; chipping fins and gates from castings, grinding castings on the stationary grinder to required specifications and places castings underneath rotating wheel or basket or placing on conveyor or pallet.

  8. Requires constant visual attention to chip and grind castings to required specifications.

  9. Coordinates a high degree of manual dexterity with close visual attention for sustained periods.

  10. Constant care necessary to prevent serious injury to others such as crushed or broken bones or eye injuries from flying particles.

  11. Responsible only for own work.

  12. Continuous and intensive exposure to several disagreeable elements such as heat, noise, vibration.

  13. Exposed to health hazards in performing duties such as broken or crushed bones in handling heavy castings and grinder dust.
