Overview

The Director, Continuous Improvement will be the organizational leader of Manchester Tank’s Continuous Improvement Journey through lean transformation and strategy deployment based process improvement initiatives. This individual will be responsible for developing a strategic approach to implement continuous improvement methodologies and standards – and will lead the deployment of these tools and processes across MTE’s six plant global footprint. 

 

The Director, CI will also be called upon to deliver practical, hands-on training to associates and tools to eliminate waste in all administrative, manufacturing and support functions, as well as drive process variation reduction in our manufacturing locations.  They will facilitate events as part of the hands on training.

 

Position Location: This position will be located at one of our four manufacturing facilities in the United States. These locations are Quincy, IL, Crossville, TN, Bedford, IN, and Elkhart, IN.

Responsibilities

  • Provide tools, coaching, and project leadership to enable plants to achieve safety, quality, delivery, and cost / productivity improvement.
  • Accelerate cultural change to reduce variation and waste in everything we do.
  • Participate in cross-functional team efforts to make improvements to products and processes to deliver consistent, annual improvements in performance.
  • Support the training and execution of Strategy Deployment and Plan-Do-Check-Act processes as foundation for execution of key projects.
  • Develop Lean and Strategy Deployment training to be deployed throughout Manchester Tank.
  • Drive standardization and structure into performance indicators from the shop floor through senior management to identify, prioritize and validate the improvement actions and results.
  • Assist in the development of plant lean and quality leaders in advanced tools and methodologies for sustainable results.
  • Communicate plans and progress to senior management on a regular basis.
  • Partner with key stakeholders to prioritize and deliver projects on time.
  • Lead a team of CI professionals who work with operations and functional teams to streamline processes to improve the customer experience, enable profitable growth and become more efficient.
  • Serve as a change agent promoting the use of Lean tools and Strategy Deployment methodology.
  • Create an environment where all employees have increased opportunities to contribute to the success of the business and the security of their future through Continuous Improvement efforts.

Qualifications

Qualifications

Education, Experience, Certifications:

  • Minimum of 4 year technical degree in science, engineering or quality.
  • Master’s degree a plus.
  • 8-10 years experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum 5 years process improvement experience in manufacturing using formal lean, strategy deployment, and PMP tools.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt, Black Belt, or Master Black Belt preferred.

 

Competencies, Skills, Knowledge:

 

  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Experience in manufacturing plants and processes
  • Able to articulate enterprise wide approach to strategic improvement initiatives
  • Proficient in problem solving (root cause analysis, 5 why, etc ) and lean leadership (daily mgmt, standard work, gemba, kaizen events, 2P/3P events)
  • Ability to communicate with senior levels of the organization
  • Must be quality and lean oriented
  • Proven track record of developing, training, and coaching teams
  • Knowledgeable in APQP methodology; Control Plans, FMEAs, 5S, Value Stream Mapping (VSM), and gated project methods
  • Able to work independently as well as in a team-oriented environment on multiple projects
  • Strong verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong computer skills –Windows based programs
  • Exposure in Implementing Lean transformation in manufacturing environments is desirable.
