This position is responsible for identifying, managing, and leading continuous improvement projects for McWane Ductile – NJ with a goal toward improving efficiencies, reducing cost, and improving quality by utilizing continuous improvement techniques.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist operations and maintenance with complex troubleshooting, root cause analysis and problem solving.
  • Work closely with Operations/HR/Safety management to establish a team culture in the facility.
  • Identifies and assesses various problems from established manufacturing standards and best practices; researches and recommends solutions.
  • Investigate, evaluate, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues including material use variances, bottlenecks, and inefficiencies.
  • Lead improvement projects to increase process capacity and reliability, improve product quality, & increase yields.
  • Implements methods and modifications to reduce production costs.
  • Trains the manufacturing team on new procedures upon implementation.
  • Ensure changes are implemented and monitor progress and results.
  • Develop and drive implementation of longer-term improvement plans.
  • Provide project team leadership within the area of small projects, provide technical team leadership for any larger projects, and potentially support other capital projects.
  • Participate and facilitate Lean Manufacturing/Six Sigma/A3 principles and problem-solving initiatives to improve quality, uptime, costs, and safety.
  • Operates in a cross-functional environment.

  • Position primarily requires sitting, standing, talking, and walking in an office environment (30%) and stooping, reaching, climbing, standing, walking, and talking in a manufacturing and processing environment (70%).
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and to adhere to safety requirements. This includes the wearing of required PPE.
  • Corrected vision and color distinction are required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to dirty, wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; fumes, airborne particles, and concentrated chemicals which may require personal protective equipment such as a respirator and chemical suit; and outside weather conditions. Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (technical field preferred) or relevant work experience or both.
  • 1-3 years Industrial Manufacturing experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage projects and accomplish goals.
  • Should possess strong organizational, project management, and influencing skills with the ability to work on multiple projects and lead multiple teams.
  • Proven effective communication skills to work with production floor personnel, technical teams, and management to gain buy-in and support needed to accomplish the improvements.
  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and deliver projects on time in a fast- paced environment
  • Ability to develop new training or methods of training related to production process and manufacturing work instructions.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft applications and capable of using other related software applications.
  • Established analytical and problem-solving skills with a strong continuous improvement mindset to drive and identify improvement plans.
  • Must be comfortable with all levels of employees and have the ability to drive positive change.
  • Ability to organize and execute large scale projects.
  • Strong understanding of continuous improvement tools and methodologies.

Language Skills        

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills                                                                

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability                                                    

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
