McWane Inc. has a newly created division, McWane Plant and Industrial (MPI). This new division, based in Birmingham, AL, combines all Plant and Industrial Products in a single customer-focused package. We offer comprehensive solutions through an experienced team of professionals specifically focused on these two special markets. Our Mission is to be the Plant and Industrial supplier who is “easiest to do business with”.  We will make it easier to engineer, specify, and order components for plants.  We will provide greater support for smoother delivery, cost-effective installation, and start-up. Most importantly, we will build strong relationships with design engineers, contractors, plant operations teams and project owners to assure we are their first-choice supplier for both new construction and future upgrades. Position Summary

The Industrial Painter will spray surfaces of manufactured products with protective or decorative material such as paint, enamel, glaze, gel-coat, or lacquer. This role will also work closely with the production coordinators and leads. You will be expected to actively promote and follow the McWane Way Principles.

 

Responsibilities

Scope of Responsibilities

  • 1st Responsibility - Ensuring personal safety and the safety of your team members.
  • Assists supervisors and managers in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Wears appropriate PPE which may include fall protection, respiratory protection, hearing protection, foot, hand, head and eye protection.
  • Responsible for cleanliness of the assigned work area as well as maintaining a safe and clean work environment.
  • Proactively promotes the McWane Way principles.
  • Help ensure quality standards are met.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of standard operating procedures.
  • Moves and handles parts with cranes and fork trucks.
  • Material handling.
  • Cleans products in preparation prior to painting.
  • Applies masking tape over parts and areas that are not to be coated.
  • Fills cavities and dents with putty to attain smooth surface.
  • Selects and mixes coating liquid to produce desired color.
  • Applies prime or finish coat to specification.
  • Coats areas inaccessible to hand sprayer with brush.
  • Cleans spraying equipment and brushes with solvent.
  • Other tasks and duties as needed.

 

Work Environment: 

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls.  
  • The employee frequently is required to talk and hear and occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus and determine and distinguish color.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications 

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience
  • Skilled in the use of various tools, equipment, and materials of the painting trade
  • Skilled in painting interior and exterior surfaces. Familiar with matching and mixing oil-based paint, latex paint, varnishes, stains, and thinners.
  • Ability to read and write, interpret blueprints, and determine units of measure.
  • Work with little or no direct supervision. Responsible for maintaining neat and orderly work area, maintain tools.

Position Requirements

  • Standing, walking, stooping, balancing, kneeling, reaching, and sitting are some of the physical requirements.
  • Must meet and adhere to physical requirements as well as always wearing the appropriate PPE (steel toed boots, safety glasses, hearing protection and mask).
  • Will be required to work in the following conditions: heat, cold, noise, and vibration.
  • Must be able to work in dust and fumes.
  • Must have the ability to operate forklift or overhead crane.
  • Overtime may be required during high production periods. 
  • Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noises.
  • Must have some knowledge of industrial tools, their uses, and maintenance.
